TRR 80 Summer School "Functionality of Correlated Materials"

3 - 7 September 2012

The Summer School on "Functionality of Correlated Materials" took place in Frauenwoerth im Chiemsee, 3 - 7 September 2012. The tutorials and lectures covered the broad research field of the Transregio 80 with special focus on the emergence of functionality from correlation effects.

The topics of the Summer School were electronic correlations in bulk materials, heterostructures, and thin films including, e.g., multiferroics, Heusler compounds, and frustrated materials. The focus was on the emergence of functionality from correlation effects. The program consisted of lectures from experiment and theory, comprising materials research, experimental techniques, theoretical modelling, and industrial applications.

The program included short presentations of participants, poster sessions, and plenty of discussion time. There was also a hiking tour to the nearby mountains of the Alps or a visit to the famous Bavarian "Castle Herrenchiemsee" of King Ludwig II of Bavaria.

The Summer School was aimed at Master and PhD students as well as PostDocs within the Transregio 80 and the Associated Partners.
